Norfolk, a short exit

Fed up with the dreadful August weather we decided to take a short exit to Norfolk which had a better forecast than the North East. It also had the advantage that that it was an area of the country neither Pippa nor I knew, oh, and it's reasonably flat. Perfect for cycling.rnrnIn fact it was near perfect all round: big skies, quiet country lanes with little or no traffic, fantastic buildings, good food and very nice people. We'll be going again.

Wacton
We spent four nights in Le Gry's Barn in Wacton (http://www.legry's-barn.co.uk/), Le Gry's was great, a beautiful building, beautifully decorated. Most of the villages in Norfolk seem to have a sign a bit like this one, with some image to represent the place.

The Courtyard Room
This was the room we had for the first night, the second night we stayed at another lovely place at Wymondham (pronounced Windham) because there were no free rooms at Le Gry's on the Sunday. When we went back for the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we had a different room: the Stable Room, which was lovely too.

Sunday morning was raining and so we took the opportunity to explore a little bit of Norwich and also the delights of the the Loch Fyne Seafood Restaurant. Well, it's our holiday and so we splashed out on this lobster seafood platter and a couple of glasses of a fine white wine. My god, it was good.

 

Once we got back from Norwich we took the bikes out for a short ride around the lanes in Wymondham. In fact we went down here a few times, the first to do the circular route and the second to go to the Bird In Hand, a pub, which, sadly, was closed.

The photo is just because Pips liked the thatched roof, in fact, thatched roofs, houses in general, and windmills became something of a theme for the photographs of the trip.
