A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.

Beaune to Barcelona by bike

Since I was enjoying the recumbent so much I decided that cycling to Spain would be a good idea. I didn't have time to cycle all the way from England and so started at Beaune, just south of Dijon, in France. For two reasons: It was just over 1000km so I could do it in two weeks, and European Bike Express could take me and the bike there.

15.46 I was heading to St Martin-de-Fugères where I hoped I might find a campsite. I'd been a week riding by now and I was starting to think I could do with a rest day.

17.17pm No campsite but there was this very nice field, it was sunny and I was happy to be out of the saddle. I'd bought some cheese tarts and an onion one too so I had those for dinner, I thought I'd save the pizza slice I'd also bought that morning for tomorrow's breakfast.

Stats: 58km, avg 12.6km/hr, max 53km/hr, 4.5hrs riding time, except I started about 6.00am and got to La Bastide at about 2.00pm so more like about 8 hours of riding.

It was uphill, then a steep downhill, then more gentle uphill; my brief notes about the day say even the downhill felt uphill!

6.25am I'd eaten the previous day's pizza slice, drunk as much water as I could and set off on a lovely sunny day, though still cool at 6.00 in the morning.
