Beaune to Barcelona by bike

Since I was enjoying the recumbent so much I decided that cycling to Spain would be a good idea. I didn't have time to cycle all the way from England and so started at Beaune, just south of Dijon, in France. For two reasons: It was just over 1000km so I could do it in two weeks, and European Bike Express could take me and the bike there.

It was nice and quite of course but it slows you down and made me a little nervous about punctures with a loaded bike. Still it was very pleasant.

08.18am, cycling past locks and cottages, on my way to Roanne.

I really fancy living on one of these. It was full of folk strolling and chatting, and watering their geraniums.

now this is a cycle lane, it was at times separated from the road, and had its own traffic lights, now why isn't Newcastle like this?

I cycled along here to get to the town centre, which I didn't really need to do but I thought I'd ask about campsite, even though it was only 9.15 in the morning and I'd only done 25km.

In the end I decided against it and carried on to Renaison, though in the end I still had a lighter day, only 48km. I spent the last hour in the rain, riding into a westerly wind. I was wet though, and knew that tomorrow was going to be a bigger climbing day and so went to a Chambre d'hote.

It was very nice, though at first the sink was blocked and the very nice owner reduced the price to 24euros; then a few hours later the plumber arrived and fixed it. I can recommend it, Mayoufiere. She made me breakfast at 5.30am and gave me extra brioche wrapped up for later.
