A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.

Spain & France and a Dog

We hadn't been on holiday, for all sorts of reasons, for about 10 years, nor had we been able to even go on our honeymoon, which had been due 2 years ago!

So, we felt we deserved a good break. A good break we felt was taking about 6 weeks away, and since we couldn't imagine being on holiday without Sam, our dog, we bought a second-hand estate car and set off.

We had a vague plan to go down the middle of France, cross over into Spain. Go down the coast of Spain to Alicante, and visit some friends, those who couldn't come to our wedding, along the way.

Then the idea was to strike northwards to Asturias, back along the north coast, into France and northwards again stopping in Brittany, then back home

Chalmazel
This was our first room, it looked very nice with a comfy bed, nice en-suite and lovely window to look up the valley. Unfortunately, after we'd been left in the room we started to notice problems, like pubic hairs in the bed, dirt and crumbs all over the carpet, not a place we could stay in given the price especially. This was the little window to look out up the valleyThe was the room we moved into, not so cosy, no sofa and not such a nice view, hey ho, it's still a chateau

Chalmazel

This is the chateau we're in tonight. I think you might agree a fairly old and robust sort of a place, just the kind of place you want if you think you might have to withstand a siege or something. It was the kind of thing neighbours did in those days.
Chalmazel goodbye
Here are those galleries seen from below, I'm below I seem to remember having made various descents, with their concomitant ascents, to collect and take away the luggage. Beautiful though isn't it?The right hand door goes into the breakfast room and the left door into the kitchen.Sam checks out the courtyard and terrace

Chalmazel goodbye

While Pippa appreciates the wonder of the 15th century central area from one of the higher galleries, Sam, who cares not a jot for art and architecture, looks at me wondering when we're going. The gallery was indeed higher, getting up to our room the night before with three heavy bags and Sam was a bit of a grunt.
